The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple agonizing backstories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that an element was lost in the music selection.
The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by artist the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of the same name, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.
But for me, The series' intro fails to capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.
Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Of course, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have some surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
