Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat

Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his position after another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.

“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot stated.

“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He added, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Failings and Squad Response

Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase of this nature with performances so bad.”

He concluded, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we will always fight.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
