Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill corner before the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
