My feeling was I got a touch - Alex Carey on review reprieve.

Australia gloveman Alex Carey stated he felt he had nicked the ball when he was overturned on review during day one of the 3rd Ashes Test against England.

Following his reprieve on 72, Carey proceeded to score a fine 106 to help the hosts finish on 326-8 at the stumps in Adelaide.

The Key Moment

The home side were 245-6 when Carey attempted a cut shot to seamer Josh Tongue.

The England team lodged a strong appeal, believing they had heard an nick, but umpire Ahsan Raza remained unconvinced.

Following skipper Ben Stokes opted to review the decision, the technology reviewed by TV umpire Chris Gaffaney displayed a significant spike but this appeared before the ball had made contact with the bat.

Gaffaney further stated he was of the opinion there was a gap between the bat and the ball.

Consequently, Carey was reprieved.

"I felt a little noise as the ball went past," stated Carey.

"Had I been given out, I likely would have reviewed, but without much conviction. There was a definite noise."

Technology Debate

Questions have been raised about 'the sound wave technology' during the Ashes contest after a series of unclear moments.

England's bowling coach David Saker suggested the touring side may take this latest incident further with match referee Jeff Crowe.

"We haven't acted yet, but following today's events, that could change," Saker said.

"We've had doubts about it throughout. It's disappointing that this is a post-play discussion. That's where we are."

Personal Milestone

The ton was his maiden in the Ashes.

It was also an emotional moment for Carey, whose dad passed away in September. Carey's wife was emotional in the crowd as the batsman marked the occasion by pointing to the heavens.

"Scoring a century at home with family watching was incredible," stated Carey.

"I guess you know as well why I was looking to the heavens. I'm fighting back the tears. It was truly wonderful."

This isn't Carey's first brush with Ashes drama.

He was the keeper who famously stumped Jonny Bairstow at Lord's in the 2023 series, which created a heated final day.

On his reprieve he added: "The sound wave didn't match up. It is just the way cricket goes - sometimes you have a bit of luck."
