After enduring significant rainfall that resulted in floodwaters across areas in the city, the City of Angels is now grappling with unseasonably hot temperatures for this time of year.

Record-Setting Readings

During the day Friday, the temperature reached 91°F (33°C) in the city center, as reported by the National Weather Service. This exceeds the prior high for February 27th, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was set just last year.

"Exceptionally warm weather" were noted on official maps for the region.

Public Health Warnings

Forecasters issued a warning that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for those at risk. Their advice featured:

• Keeping well-hydrated.
• Reducing outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
• Not leaving children or pets unattended in a car.

An Extreme Reversal

This sharp rise in mercury follows closely after a massive winter storm that battered the region recently. That event delivered high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to the mountains, causing mudslide risks for many residents.

Sadly, the conditions also triggered a large avalanche in the Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities.

Forecast Ahead

Looking ahead some relief will arrive. Readings were forecast to fall to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city by Friday night.

Other locales that reached ninety degrees included Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Additionally, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were expected to see the upper eighties.

For the weekend, central LA can see temperatures in the 80s, with cooler weather on tap for the following week.
