Israelis have gathered throughout the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated attack on 7 October 2023, as negotiations continued in Egypt over an end to the war in Gaza.

The attack led to in excess of 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured back to Gaza as captives. It was the single deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are considered accurate by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the leader remarked on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will never again create a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed official memorials until mid-October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but events still occurred throughout the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of people who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the families themselves, it was aired throughout Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was observed across the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas representatives convened in the North African Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a second day of indirect talks to discuss the terms of the plan.

A prominent Palestinian official familiar with the discussions indicated that an late session of mediated discussions commenced at evening in Egypt.

The source said the earlier meeting concluded without concrete outcomes, due to conflicting views over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to make certain Israel does not resume fighting after the initial stage of the arrangement.

He noted that the talks are "difficult and have yet to produce any real breakthrough," but noted that intermediaries are striving to reduce the disparities between the both parties.

Key Points in Negotiations

  • A lasting truce
  • The exchange of the hostages still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies provision
  • Future management of the territory

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's public square earlier, 29-year-old a woman - whose brother survived the assault on the gathering, where many attendees were lost their lives and numerous more were captured by Hamas fighters - told: "No place feels like home any longer and until every captive are released not a single person will feel safe."

"When we see everybody home returned, we can breathe once more. Then we can start to recover," she concluded.

In front of the leader's home in Jerusalem, people gathered to express their support for the relatives of the hostages. Israel says nearly fifty continue in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be alive.

Demonstrator one woman remarked: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement necessary for the captives to be released. But we sincerely need promises that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that around 70% of the population desire the war to finish in return for the freedom of the captives.

Gaza Situation

At the location of the gathering, mourners gathered to remember the victims.

From the site, the sound of military attacks and explosions could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers reported the intense Israeli shelling persisted.

In Gaza City, attacks were noted in the morning of Tuesday in the west side district, Rimal and locality districts and in the east side district of that sector, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"When the evening comes, the dread arrives with it," displaced urban resident a mother, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack previously, shared.

"We are terrified of the attacks. All the night we are resting together, holding each other, particularly my little child who rests his face on me all night."

"Constantly we look at the updates to see what happened. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be finalized and that the conflict will return to us."

Medical Situation

The medical facility in Gaza City said it had received the bodies of half dozen people by the afternoon, including three killed in an Israeli bombing in the southern district.

Another medical facility in the southern city of that area reported two more dead people had been transported. An individual was killed by Israeli troops while looking for help to the south, medics reported.
