Democratic lawmakers Denounce Trump After He States They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials demonstrated anger after former President Donald Trump accused a group of Democratic representatives of being "traitors" and stated they should be arrested and penalized "with execution" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Recording That Triggered the Debate

The video footage, shared on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic lawmakers who formerly acted in armed forces or security capacities.

"As we did, you all took an oath to safeguard and uphold this constitution," the officials declared in the 90-second video. "Currently, the threats to our governing document aren't just from abroad, but from domestically. Our statutes are clear, you can decline improper directives, you can decline unlawful commands, you must reject illegal orders. No one has to follow directives that break the statutes or our constitution."

Trump's Incensed Reply

The video message reportedly trigger a furious reaction from the ex-president.

On Thursday morning, Trump wrote on his preferred platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate message, he stated: "This constitutes really bad, and Dangerous to our United States. Their statements cannot be permitted to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also redistributed a comment that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Leaders Respond

Following Trump's remarks on that day, Top Democrats issued a combined announcement censuring the remarks.

"Political violence has no role in the United States," they declared. "Elected officials who participated in the video all acted our country with exceptional patriotism and honor. We strongly denounce Donald Trump's appalling and risky calls for execution against elected officials, and urge House Republicans to forcefully do the same."

The Democratic leaders also stated that they had been in contact with security officials "to ensure the protection of these officials and their families."

"Donald Trump must without delay delete these extreme social media posts and recant his violent discourse before he causes harm," the statement continued.

Officials' Firm Response

The lawmakers who participated in the video also issued a response.

"We identify as veterans and security experts who love this nation and swore an oath to defend and uphold the national charter of the United States," they said. "Our pledge lasts a lifetime, and we plan to keep it. No threat, pressure, or call for violence will stop us from that important responsibility."

"The significant point is that the president views it punishable by execution for us to repeat the legal requirements," they added. "Armed forces members should recognize that we have their protection as they carry out their pledge to the national charter and duty to follow only lawful orders. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They added: "All citizens must come together and censure the former president's demands for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a time for ethical certainty."

More Governmental Responses

The Democratic Senate minority leader also censured Trump's statements and shared on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is demanding the death of public representatives."

He stated: "This is an outright THREAT. Every Senator, every Representative, all citizens – regardless of party – should denounce this right away and absolutely."

The GOP leader justified Trump's claim that the Democrats had been involved in "treason", describing the video as "extremely improper", adding: "It is very dangerous, you have leading members of the government advising soldiers to ignore directives, I think that is unprecedented in the nation's past."

The GOP official also according to sources told journalists that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "explaining the violation of treason" but that "legal experts have to analyze the terminology and determine all that."

Administration Reaction

During a administration briefing on later that day, when questioned by a journalist, "Would the president want to execute elected officials?", the administration spokesperson responded: "No."

"We should understand about what the ex-commander in chief is addressing," the spokesperson said. "You have sitting members of the US Congress who conspired to orchestrate a video message to individuals of the US military, to active duty service members advising them to ignore the president's lawful orders."

She stated: "The purity of our military relies on the chain of command, and if that chain of command is compromised, it can result in fatalities, it can result in disorder, and that is exactly what these congressional representatives ... are essentially encouraging."
