Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:
- Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
