A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
